There are estate agents… and then there’s Jolene.
Most agents walk into a house and see square meters, granite tops, and commission percentages. Jolene walks in and somehow leaves knowing who’s fighting with their sister, whose son refuses to move out, why the dog only sleeps in the laundry, and which cupboard hides the “good Tupperware.”
It all started back in 2007 when she escaped the corporate jungle after a decade at Investec Bank — although according to her, Investec didn’t give her a job… they gave her a career. Corporate polish, professionalism, structure… all the things she still carries with her today, except now there’s also WhatsApps at midnight saying: “Hi Jolene, do you think the energy in the guest bathroom feels negative?”
After corporate life, she joined Balwin Properties as a sales executive, where she spent 13 years mastering the art of property sales, emotional counselling, detective work, unpaid therapy, hostage negotiation, and occasionally actual real estate.
Unlike the stereotypical pushy property agent, Jolene has never done an offer to purchase for the wrong reason. No hard sell. No fake urgency. No “THIS PROPERTY WILL GO TODAY!” panic tactics.
Because to her, buying a home isn’t just a transaction. It’s personal. Which is why clients trust her. Also possibly because after one viewing she somehow knows:
their relationship history, their medical background, who inherited the family drama, and which cousin borrowed money in 2019 and never paid it back.
People arrive at a viewing as strangers and leave wondering: “Why did I tell her all that?”
Calm under pressure, armed with a razor-dry sense of humour, Jolene moves through the property world like a perfectly composed swan… while underneath the surface she’s coordinating banks, buyers, sellers, rates clearances, electrical certificates, emotional breakdowns, and somebody named Trevor who still hasn’t signed page 14.
Today, Jolene stands as proof that integrity still exists in property. That calm people are often the funniest in the room. And that somewhere in
South Africa, there’s a buyer currently saying: “We only went to see a townhouse… how does she know about my childhood trauma?”
Because that’s not just property sales.
That’s the Jolene experience.
